Welcome to vokohtz.org. Vokohtz is a combination of the names Vokoun and Kohtz, which share a few middle letters. Jamie and Craig will be Kohtzs, and Conner and Abby will be Vokouns, but together we are the Vokohtzs.

We went to a Dr. appointment today. We were excited to go so that we could ask questions, since we were so stunned at the last appointment we couldn't think of any questions to ask! Here is what we found out:

  • We heard two little heartbeats, both were very strong. It's good to know that they are both healthy at this point!!

  • My due date is August 3, although the babies will probably come early. The average gestation period for twins is 37 weeks, so about July 10 plus or minus 2-3 weeks is when they will be born.

  • The twins are most likely fraternal. Craiggers is still hoping for identical, but we will be happy as long as both babies remain healthy.

  • I won't have any travel restrictions until the last few months of the pregnancy....at this point, anyway.

  • At 32 weeks they will decide if I should continue to work. If there are no issues at that point, I will probably work up to week 34-35.

  • The biggest risk as the pregnancy progresses is pre-term labor, which happens due to the ever-increasing size of the uterus. The body thinks it's time for the babies to be born, as we are set up for one at a time. Since I will be at capacity early, I may need to take it really easy toward the end so that we can keep them in as long as possible.

So that's about it. We are all healthy and things are going very well! Here are a few pictures of the excited older siblings (including Bowie, who has no idea what in the heck is going on).

This weekend, I finished painting all the walls so I could finally begin framing. This means I get to use power tools and explosives! My new framing nailer, which I got for my birthday, is coming in very handy. The explosives are for the Ramset which drives nails into the concrete.

So far, I've finished one wall and have begun on Abby's closet. I still need to finish the inside wall against the foundation in the closet. Then it's on to the foundation wall with the window and boxing out the rest of the ventilation. Once those things are done, I'll close off Abby's room and start on the bathroom. Finally, I'll finish off the rest of the basement and I'll be done with framing.

As always, I'm a little frustrated by some small mistakes. Nothing major, and nothing that won't be hidden, but I was measuring wrong on the first wall along the back side. I'm measuring 16 inches on center, but I didn't start in the right spot. So everything is about a half inch off. Oh well, I'll be hanging the drywall so it won't really matter.

Here are two pictures, one of me leaning against the closet wall, another from a different angle of Jamie in the closet. She says she'll be coming out of the closet soon. I don't know what that means.

Well I am officially into my 2nd trimester. I'm still feeling really good..not much has changed. I think I actually slept through the entire night on Wednesday, but I made up for it last night when I got up 2-3 times. My bladder hates this intrusion. I am continuing to grow at a very fast pace. It is very strange because I am about as big as I was at 6 months with Conner and Abby, but this time the babies are too small for me to feel any movement. I think it will be a few more weeks for that. I spend a lot of time with my hand on my belly waiting to feel any little nudge. We have our next appointment this coming Monday, so I will have answers to a lot of questions then. I'll let you all know everything that we find out!

Craiggers got over his terrible illness. My immune system must be ramped up, as I don't seem to have caught whatever it was that he had. Thank goodness! He is back to his old self and will be working on the basement this weekend. Time is ticking!!

We started our search for day-care this week. We looked at one day-care center on Thursday. It was really nice and all of the kids seemed very happy and well behaved. We would like to check out 3-4 other places so that we can get on multiple waiting lists. My mom has graciously offered to come stay with us over the winter when I go back to work and watch the babies until February or March (or whenever spots open up in the day care centers). It will be a wonderful help to have her here!

Conner had his high school informational meeting on Tuesday. It's hard to believe that he will be in 9th grade next fall! He is keeping busy with guitar, piano, fencing, and his ever-increasing social life. Abby is taking voice, piano, and is on the Heartland Aquatics swim team. She is still new but is really enjoying it. We are so proud of both of them! They are very excited for their new brothers/sisters/both!!

As promised, I included a picture of Craiggers this time! I tried to get him to do a belly bump with me, but he wouldn't participate. Guess he's afraid mine won't be bigger. HA! The babies are the size of peaches this week, and I am the size of a basketball!!

Well, I'm at Week 12 now...at the end of the first trimester! Only 25 weeks to go! It's a little scary to see the picture from a week ago. I've gotten quite a bit bigger! I can't imagine what I will be like at week 35.

This week I finally went shopping for some maternity clothes. I know I'll be tired of them soon, but they sure are comfortable! They have much cuter maternity clothes than they did 13 years ago. My back really started hurting today when I sat for long periods of time. I'm sure the sudden increase of weight up front is a bit of a strain. Craiggers bought me a "Prenatal Yoga" DVD for Christmas. This would be a good time to start!

One milestone this week is my acceptance of the mini-van as the best option for us. It was a hard line to cross, but I'm actually excited about it now. Here are some reasons for our choice:
- Getting kids in the car in a tight garage (sliding doors)
- Remote control door opening
- Good gas mileage
- Ample space in back adequate for weekend trips
- Lots of legroom for Conner and Abby
- Bowie won't have to ride on the hood

So here is the Week 12 picture. I promise that we will include pictures of the kids or Craiggers next time!! The babies are the size of large plums this week. Cute!!

It's off to the dungeon... er, basement for me. Today I'm going to continue painting the walls with the water/mildew resistant paint until the paint is gone or until 10:30, whichever comes first. I have an oil change at 11:00, at which time we'll start looking for a new SUV/Crossover that can accommodate six people and a small dog. After that, it's off to buy Jamie some new clothes to accommodate two of the six that will be in said car.

Finally, after all our running around, we'll stop at Home Depot and I'll get some wood for framing. Then the fun will begin. I have a brand new ramset and framing nailer that I'm anxious to use. First up is framing around the duct work. Pictures to come. Here is a picture of the basement half painted.

We decided to start a blog to keep everyone informed about the progression of our twin pregnancy. We found out we were having a baby on Thanksgiving Day, and we found out that we were actually having TWO babies on January 3rd. We were very surprised, but after a week or so we are used to the idea. We are both very excited!

So...we are officially at week 11 as of today. I started getting "bigger" around week 7 (which should have been my first clue that there were two babies in there). We decided to capture everything on film, so that we can show the twins and keep our family and friends up to date. I wish that I would have taken more pictures of my pregnancies with Conner and Abby...I guess that's the difference between age 24 and age 37! This is going to be pretty amazing, so we don't want to forget about it.

I'm feeling really good...just very tired and VERY hungry! I read that I need 600 extra calories every day, so I'm trying to eat more than usual. It hasn't been hard since I'm so hungry all of the time! Everyone tells me not to worry about any extra weight now, but to eat a lot and make sure that the babies are healthy! Craiggers is taking the same approach. I've been having a hard time sleeping since I've been getting up 3-4 times every night to go to the bathroom. I'm not sure if that will subside but I sure hope so!

Below is our first picture at Week 11. My pregnancy app says that they are the size of limes this week. We still have about 26 weeks to go....yikes!!
